Hicks With Picks

The Bluegrass group Hicks with Picks formed from a group of friends at Rock Spring Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA. Several pickers got together in 2002 and continue to play and have fun.

At Rock Spring, HWP plays gospel bluegrass before Sunday school most Sunday mornings. At least once every quarter, the Hicks play for the 11:00 worship service - a "Bluegrass Sunday". This is a great time and a worship service that should not be missed.

In 2005 HWP produced their first CD of original tunes and standards titled "A Monkey Who Can Dance". This CD continues to be popular and is available for purchase.

In November of 2009, HWP released their latest CD titled "Hey Dog". This CD contains 15 original songs written by Jeff Dore, the band's banjo player.

The band's personnel include Jeff Dore on banjo and lead vocals, Mike Nugent on mandolin, Beth Stephenson on upright bass, Charles Gowing on guitar, and Allison Foster and Mary Gowing on lead and harmony vocals.

The group performs frequently across the Atlanta metropolitan area in festivals and other events. In 2007 and 2008 HWP performed at the Southeastern Bluegrass Association birthday event in Blairsville, and has performed several times on WRFG with J.R. You may have also heard Hicks with Picks on the radio (104.7 The Fish) the last four years during the Christmas season.
